Štrika Railway Ferata Cycling Tour

Štrika Ferata Railway Cycling Tour takes you along the bicycle-pedestrian path that stretches along the former Kanfanar – Rovinj railway branch. The route is not very demanding. Therefore it is appropriate not only for beginners, families but also regular cyclists. The railway branch Kanfanar-Rovinj stretched for a length of 20,561 m and served to connect the economic centers of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy with the city of Rovinj, a strong industrial center at the time.

Feel the History

Work on the construction of the branch line and the Rovinj railway station began in 1873. The first train from Kanfanar arrived in Rovinj on August 19, 1876. A day later, the first train from Rovinj left for Kanfanar. Traffic on the railway lasted until October 20, 1966. The route of the former railway is located in the area of ​​the city of Rovinj and the municipality of Kanfanar and stretches through the cadastral municipalities of Rovinj, Rovinjsko Selo, Sošići and Kanfanar. Along the route, which passes over three bridges, there are also four railway stations and 14 guardhouses. Today, that part of the railway line serves as a bicycle-pedestrian path.
