Hiking Nature Park Učka
Hiking Nature Park Učka is certanly a great one-day trip from the sea to the top. As a matter of fact, Učka is one of the most northern landscape points of the Mediterranean. Furthermore, it rises along the coast of the northern Adriatic, in the continental part of Istria. Another thing to point out is that Nature park Učka covers an area of astonishing 160 m2. Secondly, it was declared a nature park more than 20 years ago. Since then, it has become the favorite spot of not only alpinists, hikers, but also tourists visiting Istria and Opatija.
Closeness to the sea together with high altitude resulted in very diverse flora and fauna. To point out, Nature Park Učka is home to over 1,200 plant species. For instance, the Učka bellflower grows only on Učka. Not to mention, there are more than 150 species of birds as well, such as the griffon vulture or the golden eagle.
The highest mountain of Istria
The highest peak of the mountain and the Istrian peninsula is Vojak (1,401 meters), named after a stone tower that was built back in 1911. Without a doubt, this outstanding lookout gives you amazing panoramic views of Istria. To illustrate, hiking Nature Park Učka opens up views along the bay of the city of Rijeka, Platak, the northern part of the Adriatic and its islands, the Gorski Kotar region, and mountains of Velebit and Ćićarija. In fact, on a clear day, you can see even further. Both Venice, the bay of Trieste, the Julian Alps, and the Dolomites in Italy are in the palm of your hand.
